There is no humility left in this world. Everyone around me acts like a jackass all the time.
I'm exaggerating of course. But I find that it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem. For instance, just because you think you're right doesn't mean you automatically are. If you are right, you are right, you need not have to rub everyone's nose in it or keep repeating to everyone that you are right. Ultimately, if you actually are right, people will acknowledge you are right and that's that.
And there's nothing all that glamorous about being right anyway. People get things wrong all the time and still live happy lives.
Thing with these people, is that they don't actually care about being a jackass. What's important to them is that they are right and that everyone else knows it. They don't give a damn about how irritating they are to other people or anything else.
I wanna blame this on the Americans. I understand that pride is an important thing to them and I don't blame them, one's own pride should never be compromised. Thing with the Americans is that they have pride, but (Most of them) they can and will willingly admit that they are wrong when they have been proven wrong.
I believe that the people on this side of the Earth have inherited the unwilling to be wrong part, but forgotten to inherit the admit their own wrongs part.
So that makes the people on this side of the Earth bigger jackasses than the people on their side of the Earth.
I never really thought of it much, but recently I've been thinking that the Americans have been a very bad influence on the Asian culture. Don't get me wrong, I think America is an amazing country. I watch a lot of their shows, I listen to (quite) a lot of their music and I follow a lot of their news. I just think the people here have compromised what makes Asia unique to copy the Americans.
Look at the bad side of things, America has given us McDonalds, KFC and all sorts of fattening food. They have taught us that it's okay to sleep around indiscriminately. They have shown us that what race you are determines what social standing you'll be in. They have liberally spread the use of the F word around (That may not all be their fault though, I think Europe spread that more than America).
As far as I've seen, Asians as a whole show that they're basically humble people. They may be mavericks, they may be geniuses, they may be captains of industries, they say what they want, but they have always been humble.
Till now, that is.
I'm not covering all and every Asian under the same standing, I'm sure they are many of you out there who are not jackasses and treat people fairly. I just think that we are getting thoroughly influenced by a culture that is not necessarily better than our own.
I do not say that I have not been influenced. I do not know anything about my supposedly mother-mother country (China, duh), but that's because I don't really think I'm a China Chinese. I think that's important in a way.
I have always thought my location was perfect in the sense that I was in the middle of everything. I watch shows from the West, I listen to music from the East. I read the books of the West, I attend the concerts of the East. All considered, I think I'm getting almost the best of both world.
But where will our own culture evolve? Are we so susceptible to influence that we cannot define what makes us us? Pro-lefties will scoff at those that listen to cheesy Kpop. Pro-righties will shake their heads at the other side's heavy metal. Do we have to divide our loyalties to the East and the West? Can we not form our own brand? The absolute center of influence and yet no-influence?
I think we've got the influence part absolutely pat down. The issue is that we can't come up with something that others want. Must we venture out to either side to make it big?
A lot of pointless ramblings in this post. Haha. I just got on a high and I was recently irritated by something, so that brought on the "humility" lecture, but as I was typing I thought of what caused it and I ultimately came to the conclusion that it was the influence of the West. Haha.
Anyway, I hope this made sense. And I thank you for reading this far. If you did, I'm sure you have an opinion, so voice it out to me. Maybe we can have a meaningful discussion about it. Hahaha.
Some other stuff:
SMTOWN 2010 Tour
Whoo... cool... if only I could go. They got BoA, Max, U-know, Kangta, Suju, SNSD, SHINee, f(x), Zhang LiYin. Sounds like an awesome lineup. Haha.
And Netherlands beat Brazil! Haha. That was cool. I would talk about it more, but I don't really care all that much. I would say though, I love Netherlands, I keep saying this over and over, but I was thoroughly impressed by their match with France like years and years ago and since then, I loved watching them play. XD
I wish I could've watched it though. I went to a kopitiam nearby hoping to be able to sit down and watch it, but all the tables were filled AND there was like hundreds of people standing around the sidewalk, the small slope at the side all staring like zombies at the small TV. It wasn't even a projector or something, it was a small LCD (Or Plasma) TV. I couldn't even see the score from where I was standing! In the end I tapau'ed my food back and came home to eat, it was simpler and while I DO wish I could've watched it, I'm perfectly fine having not watched it. Lol.
A very wordy post, lol. I wish I could've taken a picture of all the zombies watching the screen though, that would make a fun conversation. XD
